16/11/2015 - Successful participation of CTO at the International Golf Travel Market IGTM
The Cyprus Tourism Organisation successfully participated in the International Golf Travel Market IGTM 2015 in Tenerife, Canary Islands-Spain, the most important golf tourism exhibition in the world which attracted more than 1,400 golf business stakeholders including more than 500 exhibitors [golf courses, National Tourism Organisations, hotels etc], and 325 Golf Tour Operators, journalists and Media from 65 countries worldwide.
The Cyprus exhibitors at IGTM included CTO, golf courses - Aphrodite Hills, Eléa, Minthis Hills and Secret Valley - as well as hotels: Aphrodite Hills Resort, Kanika Hotels & Resorts, Thanos Hotels & Resorts, Columbia Hotel & Resort, Anemi, and Capital Coast Resort & Spa. The Cyprus Tourism brand, “Cyprus in your Heart” used in all exhibit booths gave a unique identity to Cyprus as a Golf Tourism Destination.
CTO representative Ms Maro Kazepi, Tourist Officer A, during her appointments with more than 40 Golf Tour Operators and journalists from 21 countries, had the opportunity to highlight the competitive advantages of the island in an effort to best promote Cyprus as a Golfing Destination. Golf Tour Operators already selling Cyprus as well as new ones from existing and new markets expressed interest to promote Cyprus in their golf holiday packages. The island’s main golf markets include the UK, the Nordic Countries, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, the Netherlands, and others.
Cyprus has the potential to become a “Golf Paradise”. It has golf courses with international and European acclaim offering unique golf experiences, quality hotel infrastructure and services as well as ideal climate especially during the winter when most golf courses in Central and Northern Europe are closed. More than 70% of golfers from these markets travel for golf holidays and 75% of golfers are looking for new destinations, presenting the perfect market for Cyprus. Undoubtedly, Golf Tourism contributes towards the lengthening of the tourist season and the attraction of winter tourism since 80% of the total number of over 100,000 annual golf rounds on the island is played during the non-summer period of September to May.
For the attraction of Golf Tourism to the island, CTO invests is various promotional and PR activities in golf key markets, cooperates with golf tour operators, organises Golf Fam Trips for journalists and tour operators, participates in specialized golf exhibitions and important golf tournaments as well as supports international golf tournaments organized in Cyprus. The ultimate objective is to establish Cyprus as an attractive golf tourism destination.
It is no wonder that CTO’s golf brochure slogan is “Golf Cyprus–Fairway to Heaven”.
